Fields of Mistria Starter Guide Walkthrough
This Fields of Mistria Guide will teach you the basics of the game, explain the HUD, and give you a walkthrough for the first few days of the game!
HUD Explanation
Fields of Mistria is a fairly robust Farming RPG with plenty of things to do. You'll have to learn the basics before you can start increasing your Town Rank and harness the power of magic — read on to get an explanation of the HUD and more!
- Health: Your Health meter. This bar doesn't show up if you are at full health. Taking damage reduces your Health, and eating food or resting restores health. You can only take damage from monsters in the Mines.
- Stamina: Your Stamina meter. Stamina is required for performing most tasks. Performing tasks reduces your Stamina, and eating food or resting restores it.
- Mana: Your Mana meter. Mana is used to cast magic spells once you've unlocked the ability to do so.
- Buffs/Debuffs: Any buffs or debuffs that are currently active will appear below the Mana bar. Most buffs and debuffs have a timer which is represented by the bar below the buff or debuff.
- Location: When you enter a new location, its name will be shown at the top center of the screen. This is replaced with a level indicator when you're in the Mines.
- Weather and Season: The current weather is represented by an icon and the name of the current season is shown in this same panel.
- Time of Day: The current time of day is shown just below the weather and season.
- Day and Date: The current date and day of the week are shown in the little calendar icon at the top right of the screen.
- Tessarae (Money): The counter with the gold coin next to it shows how much Tessarae you have; Tessarae is the name for Mistria's currency. Now that we've explained the HUD, it's time to get moving on the rest of our Fields of Mistria Guide! This Starter Guide walkthrough will help you navigate the first few days of the game and give you some helpful tips for succeeding. Let's get to it!
- Essence: This counter shows how much Essence you've collected. Essence is a currency that you earn by performing tasks; you can subsequently spend Essence to buy skill perks.
- Hotbar: As is standard with these games, your hotbar is at the bottom center of the screen. You can get a second hotbar when you expand your backpack.
Creating Your Character
After you've clicked "New Game" and watched the first cutscene, you'll be tasked with creating your character. You have a wide range of options for choosing your hair, clothing, skin color, birthday, etc.
While some of these choices will have a mild effect on gameplay (such as your pronouns and birthday), many of these elements can be changed later. Don't worry too much about your clothing, for example; you'll find quite a lot of clothing customization options as you progress through the game and you can change them at any time. You can even save outfits!
Getting Started on Your Farm
You'll begin the game just outside of town. You'll have to make a short trip to your farm and watch some cutscenes. You'll then wake up with a Worn Sword, 1 Vegetable Soup, a Worn Hoe, a Worn Watering Can, 3 Tulip Seeds, and 3 Turnip Seeds. You're missing many basic tools, so your first few days will be focused on getting them.
Before you get moving, you should plant the crops that you currently have. Clear away the Fiber in the dirt to the south of your house using your Worn Sword. Next, use your Worn Hoe to dig 6 farm plots. Plant the seeds from your hotbar, and then water them with the Worn Watering Can.
Performing these activities will drain some of your Stamina. You won't be able to do anything when your Stamina is fully drained, but you won't pass out, either — you'll simply stand still for a moment and yawn.
Put away everything except for your Worn Sword in the chest inside of your house.
Heading to Town
Head north from your farm and into the town of Mistria. Keep moving north and go up the stone stairs. When you do, a cutscene will begin. Adeline will give you your first Quest: meet all of the people of Mistria.
Unlike other games in the Farming RPG genre, quests in Fields of Mistria do not have a time limit. That said, it's a good idea to work on meeting everybody so you can reap the rewards.
Open the map and you'll see a bunch of icons:
The grey people represent townsfolk that you haven't met yet.
Keep in mind that people will move around throughout the day and some people are in other areas. For example, this is the area directly to the west of the farm:
Travel around the town and meet everyone so you can complete the quest, referring to the map as you go to keep track of everyone.
Meeting the Mistrians
It's now time to meet the townsfolk. Using the map as a guide, run around the different sections of the game and talk to everyone. You can track your progress by clicking on the Quest button in the main menu.
You'll likely see some forageables while you're running around. You should pick them up at every opportunity.
Once you've met everyone, return to Adeline to turn the quest in and collect your reward.
Head back into Mistria and go into the General Store right next to the Request Board in town. Use all of your money to purchase 6 Turnip Seeds and return to your farm.
Planting More Seeds and Foraging
When you're back at the farm, place all of the forageables you've found into the Shipping Bin. Although you might want to donate some to the Museum, your focus should be on getting as much money as possible right now; you'll have the entire month of Spring to get what you need.
You should hold onto Wild Berries and Water Chestnuts for now. Use right-click to split the stacks and sell only one Wild Berry and one Water Chestnut; keep the rest.
Till the soil and plant the Turnips and Potatoes you got. When you're done, there isn't much else to do for the rest of the day. You can explore the land to search for more Forageables and sell them if you'd like. Remember: only sell one Wild Berry and one Water Chestnut for now!
How to Save Your Game
It's time to save your game at the end of the day. You have two options: the Bed and the Diary.
Using the bed will overwrite your main save game file and end the day. Using the Diary, however, will create a new, separate save file. You can use the Diary at any time and then jump right back into the game if you need to. The Diary effectively allows you to make a new hard save; it's not a bad idea to save at the Diary every few days so you have backup saves.
